Research progress in the risk factors and mechanisms of postoperative atrial fibrillation after lung cancer surgery

Abstract: Postoperative atrial fibrillation (POAF) is a frequent complication occurring in patients after lung cancer surgery. POAF is associated with an increased risk of mortality and morbidity, and increases the costs of the postoperative care. The underlying mechanisms involved in POAF development are multifactorial and for the moment far being fully elucidated. This review summarized recent clinical researches on the risk factors and mechanisms of POAF, the results of which may lead to a more effective strategy for the prevention of POAF after lung cancer surgery.
