Abstract

Graphene is one of the crystalline forms of carbon, which is composed of a single monolayer of sp2 hybridized orbitals tightly packed to a two-dimensional honeycomb lattice. Because of its remarkable physiochemical properties, graphene based nanomaterials have become a hot research topic in the field of biological applications, which are available in drug delivery, gene delivery, biological detection, tumor treatment, antibacterial, tissue engineering, etc. This paper reviews the material properties, preparation methods and many derivatives of graphene, and introduces the research progress of graphene based materials in tissue engineering, including the application in wound healing, stem cell engineering, skeletal muscle engineering. The future development of graphene in the field of tissue engineering is prospected.
