Abstract

Hypogonadotropic hypogonadism (HH) is a rare disease characterized by low serum follicle-stimulating hormone and low serum luteinizing hormone. An absence of puberty initiation, a lack of secondary sexual characters, amenorrhea, and infertility are the most common clinical manifestations of this disease. A hormone replaced therapy is usually needed for female HH patients in order to establish a normal menstrual cycle and prompt the development of reproductive organs. Ovulation induction then commences when fertility intention of HH patients appears. Currently the routine regimes of ovulation induction include the use of exogenous gonadotropin and pulsatile gonadotropin-releasing hormone. In-vitro fertilization and embryo transfer (IVF-ET) becomes a common treatment for HH patients suffering from repeated failure of ovulation induction or other infertile factors. This paper reviews research progresses of the ovulation induction treatment and IVF-ET treatment for HH patients.
