Abstract

Objective To investigate the diet and vitamin C nutrition status in patients with type 2 diabetes, and provide reference for the supplement of antioxidant nutrients in the treatment of diabetes. Methods Sixty-eight patients with type 2 diabetes (type 2 diabetes group) and 136 healthy people (control group) from Shanghai Ruijin Community were selected, diet nutrition was investigated, and 4-h vitamin C urinary load test was conducted. Results The results of 4-h vitamin C urinary load test suggested that 10.3% of patients in type 2 diabetes group were in insufficient status of vitamin C, which was significantly higher than that in control group (0.7%)(P<0.05). Diet survey demonstrated that daily vitamin E intake in both groups was higher than the recommended level (14 mg), but there was no significant difference between two groups (P>0.05). Besides, there was no significant difference in vitamin C intake between two groups (P>0.05). Conclusion Patients with type 2 diabetes may be in poor nutrition status of vitamin C, and supplement of antioxidant nutrients including vitamin C should be attached great importance in the treatment of diabetes.
