Abstract

Objective To investigate a food poisoning event in a wedding dinner, and use pulsed field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) technology with isolated strains for homology analysis. Methods The epidemiological characteristics of the case of food poisoning were investigated. The anal swabs of patients and cooks, the residual food samples and link samples were collected, and were identified and serotyped by the traditional bacterial detection. The isolated strains were analysed by PFGE molecular technology, and cluster analysis of PFGE classification photographs was performed by BioNumerics software. Results There were 28 confirmed cases reported, and 12 strains of Vibrio parahemolyticus were detected from 10 anal swabs and 2 residual food samples. The serotype of these strains was O4:K8, and 3 band types were identified by PFGE molecular technology and cluster analysis. These 3 band types were extremely similar, only with differences in 2 to 4 electrophoretic bands. Conclusion This case of food poisoning is caused by Vibrio parahemolyticus.
