Analysis of research trends of nursing education in China

Abstract:

Objective To summarize the research trends of nursing education in China in the past years, and analyse the reform and development trends of nursing education. Methods Literatures published between January 2003 and December 2011 were retrieved with “education, nursing” as the subject terms in China Biology Medicine disc. The number of enrolled literatures, affiliations of authors, journal sources of literatures and themes of literatures were statistically analyzed. Results A total of 28 622 literatures were obtained. The number of enrolled literatures on nursing education had significantly increased since 2006, and reached 6 900 in 2011. The affiliations of authors were mainly vocational schools, medical colleges and hospitals. The journal sources included nursing related journals, clinical medicine journals and medical education journals. The themes of literatures focused on nursing education objectives, curriculum setting, teaching methods, and education reform and assessment. Conclusion The research trends of nursing education are associated with development of multi-level nursing training objectives, nursing database, localized courses, diversified teaching methods and standard evaluation system for nursing education.
