Ischemic reperfusion injury (IRI) is a common clinical pathophysiology, and the severity of IRI correlates with the therapeutic effects of the diseases. Remote ischemic conditioning (RIC) is induced by several periods of ischemia on tissues (upper or lower limb) to produce systemic protection against IRI in distant organs. More studies confirm that RIC can reduce IRI in cardiac surgery, vascular surgery and elective percutaneous coronary intervention. RIC is non-invasive, safe, convenient and economical, which provides a new idea and method to treat IRI and has a promising prospect in clinical application.
