Abstract:

Both short sleep duration and obesity are global concerns threatening human health. Recent research data have indicated that sleep duration is an important influential factor for obesity. Short sleep duration disturbs the secretory volume and rhythm of adipocytokines such as leptin, adiponectin and visfatin, and interrupts the dynamic balance between them, after which obesity and insulin resistance may be triggered. This paper is to systematically review the existing domestic and international literatures on the related mechanisms between short sleep duration and obesity, and discuss the effect of several important adipocytokines on sleep and obesity.
