Objective To investigate the prevalence and influence factors of anxiety of the junior high school students in Jiading District of Shanghai. Methods The Screen for Child Anxiety Related Emotional Disorders (SCARED) was used to evaluate the anxiety status of 2 011 students from 6 junior high schools in Jiading District of Shanghai. Results The total detection rate of anxiety was 38.4%. The differences of detection rates of students with different ages were statistically significant (P＜0.001). The detection rate of 14 years old students was the highest. The differences of detection rates between local students and non-local students were statistically significant (P＜0.05). The detection rate of nonlocal students was higher. The prevalence of anxiety disorder was relevant to junior grade, girls, and parents with lower education levels (P＜0.05). Conclusion The prevalence of anxiety disorder in the junior middle school students in Jiading District of Shanghai is high and the detection rate of non-local students is higher than that of local students. The risk factors may be junior grade, girls, and parents with lower education levels.
